Job Description

A Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) is an investigator that intervenes in the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). A DIS investigates reported, suspected and potential cases of STDs. Investigations include interviewing those infected with specific STDs and/or following up with individuals who have been exposed to STDs and/or HIV, analyzing case information, interacting with health care providers, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), conducting computer record searches, contacting clients by phone and/or in person and documenting investigation on forms required by MCPHD, ISDH and/or CDC. Interviews are for the purpose of providing health education and partner notification and are documented on forms required by MCPHD, ISDH and/or CDC. A DIS contributes significantly to the design of non-traditional interventions such as targeted screening programs. They troubleshoot activities within the STD program and are expected to fulfill any duty that is a necessary component of the STD control program prior to actual hiring of personnel.

Job Requirements

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in the field of Public Health or Sciences. This person should also possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance.
