Job Description

The Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) is seeking a full time epidemiologist to work with our maternal and child health program and provide epidemiologic support to other health department programs. This position is conditional on grant funding.

This position combines data management, analysis, and grant evaluation skills. The applicant must have strong oral and written communication skills with attention to detail. The ability to establish positive relationships with both non-technical and technical staff is a critical skill in this position. This person should work well both independently and in a team setting.

Much of this person’s time will be spent interacting with MCPHD staff to assess their data needs and present useful analyses and summaries of their data. The epidemiologist will often interact with other partnering agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. A fair amount of time will be spent in SAS programming for data collection, data cleaning, and statistical analysis. This person may supervise data collection personnel or interns and do project-specific supervision of programmer-analysts.

Job Requirements

Candidates should have a Master’s Degree in Public Health or related discipline. A concentration in Epidemiology is preferred. Candidates should also have training or experience with maternal and child health data evaluation along with experience with computerized data analysis and data management of large datasets. Experience using SAS is highly desirable. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be eligible to work in the U.S. MCPHD cannot sponsor an employee visa.
