Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County’s Division of Public Health is known as the Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD). MCPHD has served the residents and visitors of Marion County, Indiana for nearly 100 years. The area that MCPHD covers includes the City of Indianapolis, Beech Grove, Lawrence, Speedway, and Southport. The mission of MCPHD is to promote physical, mental, and environmental health, prevent and protect against disease, injury, and disability. The health department operates two service bureaus: the Bureau of Environmental Health and the Bureau of population health. It is enabled through Indiana Code 16-11-8.

The Family Support Specialist is a home visitation professional who assists expectant and new parents with effective parenting skills, promotes healthy childhood growth and development, enhances family functioning by helping to build trusting relationships and teaching problem-solving skills, assesses families' strengths and needs in order to make appropriate referrals and works in a collaborative and accountable manner with all staff.  Essential functions for this position include, but are not limited to:  Helps expectant and new parents acquire effective parenting skills  Promotes healthy childhood growth and development  Enhances family functioning by helping build trusting relationships and teaching problem-solving skills  Assesses families' strengths and needs to make referrals to additional community resources and help fortify social support systems  Works in a collaborative and accountable manner.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education, Psychology, Child Development or related field and related field experience with families. Experience working in community programs providing direct services to families and children preferred; Volunteer work and internships accepted  Must possess a valid driver's license and show proof of automobile insurance with a dependable car.
