Job Description

The Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) is the public health division of Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. For nearly 100 years, MCPHD has served the residents and visitors of Marion County with a mission to promote physical, mental, and environmental health, and to prevent and protect against disease, injury, and disability.

MCPHD is seeking a full time Informatics Epidemiologist to lead development, management, and evaluation of complex data sets and information systems. This position will systematically apply epidemiology and computer science expertise to create or enhance systems that capture, manage, analyze, and use information to improve population health while using accepted informatics standards. The Informatics Epidemiologist will ensure that knowledge, information, and data needs of project or program users and stakeholders are met while ensuring confidentiality, security, and integrity of public health information. This position combines data management, systems development, and analysis, and much of this person’s time will be spent in SAS and R programming environments. The Informatics Epidemiologist may sometimes manage vendors or contractors in developing systems.

Job Requirements

Candidates must have: a Master’s degree in public health (epidemiology preferred), informatics, or a related field; an excellent understanding of common programming logic and SQL; programming experience (SAS and/or R highly desirable); an excellent understanding of databases, data characteristics, and data management; experience analyzing and managing health-related data; and good oral and written communication skills. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be authorized to work without sponsorship in the U.S.
