Job Description

The Laboratory Support Specialist is organized, self-sufficient and enjoys multi-tasking when providing general and technical laboratory support to the Public Health clinical and environmental laboratory departments and off-site clinics. Responsible for specimen receipt and handling, equipment maintenance/calibration, and preparation of materials and media needed for specimen collection and testing. Performs inventory/materials management duties including distribution of consumables and personal protective equipment to offsite clinics. The employee successfully demonstrates the ability to adhere to quality control and safety requirements. Consistently demonstrates effective customer service skills, attention to detail and problem solving skills. Works together seamlessly with other Laboratory Support Specialist(s) to ensure public health laboratory and client needs are met.  Applies ethical principles and professional rules of conduct to the workplace. 

Job Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or GED (would prefer candidates that have completed at least two years of college, including courses in microbiology, biology, and/or chemistry.  Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
