Job Description

This supervisory position is responsible for a new five year federally funded initiative to implement and evaluate a multi-strategy platform for decreasing chronic disease burden in Marion County. There is a priority emphasis on racial and ethnic minority populations. The position will ensure increased access to healthy foods by creating programmatic infrastructure to extend nutrition assistance programs, working with health care systems and food retailers, among other institutions. Strategies will primarily include institutional policy development and environmental changes but strategies may be complimented by specific programmatic interventions.

This position will provide technical assistance to key stakeholders and newly engaged partners on how to reduce chronic disease by increasing access to healthy foods, increasing breastfeeding, and increasing opportunities for safe walking and biking in Marion County. The position will create and maintain comprehensive monitoring and tracking systems to enable reporting for funders and other stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Candidate must possess a high level of proficiency in financial and programmatic data management.   Advanced skills in creating and managing complex spreadsheets is required.   Must have excellent presentation and negotiation skills necessary to encourage environmental/policy change related to healthy foods and built environment infrastructure. Knowledge of the social determinants of health and how change in policies, environments and practices impact health equity is required.

Qualified candidates should have a Master’s degree in public health, public administration, health education, business administration, dietetics, or a related field and 2 years experience in program planning, management and development; Or completion of a bachelor degree in public health, public administration, health education, business administration, dietetics, or a related field and four years experience in program planning, management and development. Previous experience in a responsible position involving grant and project management in a health/public administration setting is preferred. If Health Educator, a Certified Health Education Specialist is preferred. Candidate should also have knowledge of USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, chronic disease morbidity and mortality statistics, and basic understanding of influences on the overall food system infrastructure.
